BEIJING (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 31st August, 2018) Beijing and Washington are engaged in close contacts on the preparations of the planned visit of Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe to the United States, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian said Thursday.
"We also noticed that Defense Secretary [James] Mattis has said repeatedly that he welcomes the visit of Defense Minister Wei Fenghe within this year. Wei's visit is a big event in the relationship between our countries and the two sides are in close communication with each other regarding this visit," Wu told a press briefing.
The spokesman noted that Wei's planned visit to the United States and the commitment of both parties to hold mutual visits was "a very important consensus reached by the two heads of states."
Mattis visited China in late July. During his trip to the Asian country, he extended the invitation to Wei to visit the United States by the end of the year.
