Over 200 Refugees Return to Syria From Lebanon Over Past 24 Hours - Russian Military

Over 200 Syrian refugees have returned to their home country from neighboring Lebanon over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for Refugee Reception, Distribution and Settlement said on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th August, 2018) Over 200 Syrian refugees have returned to their home country from neighboring Lebanon over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for Refugee Reception, Distribution and Settlement said on Thursday.

"Over the past 24 hours, 211 refugees (62 women and 115 children) returned to Syria from Lebanon through the Zemrani checkpoint, the Al Qusayr checkpoint and the Talkalakh checkpoint," the center said in its daily bulletin.

Since September 30, 2015, a total of 238,850 people have returned to Syria from abroad, the center added.

According to the refugee center, 1,060 internally displaced Syrian civilians have returned to their homes over the past 24 hours.

The center specified that no refugees have left Syria's Idlib de-escalation zone over the same period of time.

"The SAA [Syrian Arab Army] engineering units have been carrying out mine clearance operations in the settlements of Talbiseh, Al-Hamidiyah, Algur Algarbiyah (Homs province). They have cleared up: 3 hectares of the territory, 3 buildings and 1 kilometer of roads," the statement read.

Lebanon has accepted over 1 million refugees from neighboring Syria over the several years. As the Syrian forces have recently regained control over vast territories of the country that had been seized by terrorists, refugees have begun repatriating, and the Syrian government is engaged in creating favorable conditions for the returning civilians, which Russia actively assists.
