China owns two aircraft carriers, but the first one is a refitted ship bought from Ukraine.
"At the moment, the production work on the second Chinese aircraft carrier is progressing according to the schedule, sea trials have been completed safely and successfully, the objectives have been achieved," the spokesman said.
According to Wu, the ships's equipment has been tested, among other things.
Media reports suggested that the Type001A ship left the home port of Dalian on Sunday. Its second sea trials were expected to focus on the issues determined during the first series of tests, held in May.
