Russia's Navy Drills in Mediterranean Not Related to Situation in Idlib - Deputy Minister

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said on Thursday that the upcoming naval drills of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea had no relation to the situation in Syria's Idlib and were planned in advance

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th August, 2018) Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said on Thursday that the upcoming naval drills of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea had no relation to the situation in Syria's Idlib and were planned in advance.

Earlier this week, Russia's Defense Ministry warned that the leader of the Tahrir al-Sham terrorist group, which is affiliated with Jabhat Nusra terrorist organization (banned in Russia), was planning a false-flag chemical attack against civilians in Idlib in order to provoke western nations into retaliating against Damascus.

"I do not think that there is any connection [between the drills and the situation in Idlib]. In any case, Idlib is not situated on the coast," Bogdanov said answering a question about whether the forthcoming exercises had any relation to the escalation around Idlib.

Earlier on Thursday, the Russian Defense Ministry announced large-scale drills of the forces of the Russian Navy and Aerospace Forces in the Mediterranean Sea that will take place on September 1-8.
