Russian Militant Partaking in Syrian Conflict Extradited From Greece to Russia -  Federal Security Service (FSB)

A Russian citizen who was on the international wanted list for fighting in Syria on the side of militants, has been extradited from Greece to Russia, the Federal Security Service (FSB) said Thursday in a statement.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th August, 2018) A Russian citizen who was on the international wanted list for fighting in Syria on the side of militants, has been extradited from Greece to Russia, the Federal Security Service (FSB) said Thursday in a statement.

"The FSB of Russia together with the General Prosecutor's office of Russia, the National Central Bureau of Interpol of the Russian Interior Ministry and the Federal Penitentiary Service organized extradition from Greece of the Russian citizen, who was on the international wanted list, born in 1988, the native of the Tatarstan region," the statement reads.

The FSB said that the Russian, being a supporter of religious extremist ideology, went to Syria in 2014 and as part of international terrorist organizations participated in the fighting against government forces.

He then was hiding in the countries of the middle East and North Africa, and tried to legalize his stay in the European Union. He was arrested in Athens in January.

The extradition took place on Wednesday, given the evidence of his crimes provided by Russia to the Greek authorities.
