WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th August, 2018) The US Senate Committee on Intelligence will hold an open hearing next week with social media executives into foreign influence operations on their platforms, Senate Intel Committee Chairman Richard Burr's office said.
"Today, Senator Richard Burr (R-NC), Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and Senator Mark Warner (D-VA), Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, announced the Committee will hold an open hearing on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 to examine social media companies' responses to foreign influence operations on social media platforms," the press release said Wednesday.
Twitter Inc. Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey, Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg, and Google parent Alphabet Chief Executive Officer Larry Page will appear at the hearing.
Last week, Twitter removed more than 280 accounts for coordinated manipulation, including a number that originated from Iran. Meanwhile, Facebook said it removed more than 650 pages and accounts for inauthentic behavior that it claimed could be tied to Iran and other pages linked to Russia.
