UK Provided 500 Somalians With Military Training Since January 2017 - Statement

The number of Somalian troops who have undergone a military training provided by the United Kingdom in the African country reached 500, the UK government said on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th August, 2018) The number of Somalian troops who have undergone a military training provided by the United Kingdom in the African country reached 500, the UK government said on Wednesday.

"The British-led Baidoa Security Training Centre in Somalia has marked its 500th graduate, as part of the UK's ongoing commitment to bring peace and security to the region," the UK government said in a statement.

UK Armed Forces Minister Mark Lancaster said in the statement that the training London had provided to Mogadishu would contribute to the stability and prosperity of Somalia.

UK troops have been on a training mission in Somalia since January 2017. The instruction as part of the training is focused on medical issues, leadership development, intelligence, equipment care, logistics and human rights.

Apart from helping the Somalian army, the United Kingdom provides financial assistance to the African nation. In 2017, London said it would allocate 21 million Pounds ($27 million) to support Somalia.
