Russian Internet company Yandex has refused to sign a memorandum on the fight against online piracy, Vadim Subbotin, the deputy chief of Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) told Sputnik on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th August, 2018) Russian internet company Yandex has refused to sign a memorandum on the fight against online piracy, Vadim Subbotin, the deputy chief of Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) told Sputnik on Wednesday.

"Right holders and us, we prepared it [the memorandum] to be signed at the session on the fight against piracy at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, and, unfortunately, Yandex ignored signing," Subbotin said.

In June, a group of content producers and distributors urged the company that developed a major Russian-language search engine, to remove links to pirated content. In an open letter, they stressed that Yandex video service kept indexing pirate resources.

The forum was held in Russia's city of St. Petersburg on May 24-26.
