Officials From Russian, Botswanan Defense Ministries Hold Talks on Cooperation - Statement

Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin and Botswanan Defense, Justice and Security Minister Shaw Kgathi discussed bilateral military and defense industry cooperation during talks in Moscow, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th August, 2018) Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin and Botswanan Defense, Justice and Security Minister Shaw Kgathi discussed bilateral military and defense industry cooperation during talks in Moscow, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

"On August 28, 2018, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Col. Gen. Alexander Fomin held a meeting with Botswana's Minister of Defense, Justice and Security Shaw Kgathi. The parties discussed the state of the military and defense industry cooperation," the ministry said in a statement.

Fomin and Kgathi also discussed main aspects of further development of relations between the defense ministries of Russia and Botswana.

The officials signed an intergovernmental military cooperation agreement during their meeting, the ministry pointed out.

On Tuesday, Kgathi also met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, who also holds the position of the special presidential representative for the middle East and Africa.

"The parties discussed the acute issues of further development of traditionally friendly Russian-Botswanan relations with the focus on the prospects of expanding the comprehensive bilateral cooperation," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on the results of the talks.

Last week, Botswanan officials participated in the Army-2018 defense industry forum, held at the Patriot congress and exhibition center in the town of Kubinka, the Moscow Region.

Russia has recently been stepping up cooperation with African countries in various areas. Moscow has repeatedly said that it was committed to developing the entire range of its relations with African states to achieve peace, stability and security on the continent, and facilitate sustainable socioeconomic development in these countries.
