Russian Seasons Festival in Italy May See Over 5Mln Visitors in 2018 - Culture Ministry

The number of people attending this year's edition of Russian Seasons, an international festival of Russian culture, which is currently ongoing in Italy, might surpass five million, Russian Deputy Minister of Culture Alla Manilova said Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th August, 2018) The number of people attending this year's edition of Russian Seasons, an international festival of Russian culture, which is currently ongoing in Italy, might surpass five million, Russian Deputy Minister of Culture Alla Manilova said Tuesday.

"Today, the number [of attendees] reached 3.5 million people. By the way, this is the same number of visitors from Russian Seasons in Japan. We were very glad to achieve this result. In Italy, we expect the number of visitors to exceed five million; we hope to reach the six million target," Manilova told a press conference.

According to the official, this year, 87 cultural organizations are participating in 310 projects as part of the festival, which is being held in 75 Italian cities.

Manilova noted that 100 events were still ahead, including the "Elba - the Musical Island of Europe" music festival under the direction of Russian conductor and violinist Yury Bashmet; the opening of an exhibition of Marc Chagall; and the "Century of Museums" project, which unites unique exhibits from the leading St. Petersburg museums. Moreover, the Bolshoi Theatre will arrive for a tour in Italy in September.

Vladimir Urin, the director of the Bolshoi Theatre, said that the troupe would perform in La Scala theater in Milan on September 7-13.

The 2018 edition of Russian Seasons will end in December with a performance of Russian pianist Denis Matsuev.

The festival was held for the first time in 2017 in Japan. Over 20 organizations participated in the events organized in 40 Japanese cities.
