PMLN submits resolution in Punjab Assembly over Pakpattan DPO’s transfer

PMLN MPA Hina Pervaiz Butt submitted a resolution in the Assembly demanding the government to investigate the matter without any bias.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 28th August, 2018) The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) has submitted a resolution in Punjab Assembly over the transfer of Pakpattan District Police Officer (DPO).

PMLN MPA Hina Pervaiz Butt submitted a resolution in the Assembly demanding the government to investigate the matter without any bias.

The text of the resolution said that Pakpattan DPO Rizwan Umar Gondal was transferred through political interference. The party claiming to bring police reforms has violated the law.

The targeting of the DPO for revenge is regrettable. The resolution demanded to initiate an inquiry against the responsible as per law.

Rizwan Gondal was allegedly transferred for stopping Khawar Maneka, the former husband of Bushra Maneka, at a police check post for speeding.

According to media reports, Maneka used abusive language when police officials tried to stop him at a picket on Thursday. DPO Rizwan Gondal was later asked to apologize to Maneka at his home which he refused, saying the police officials present on the occasion did not commit any crime.

Gondal was then transferred by the Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Kaleem Imam.

After the news of the DPO’s transfer went viral on social media, the IGP said that the Pakpattan DPO was not transferred ‘under any pressure but for making false statements’.

When the DPO was asked about the incident of misconduct of police with the citizen, he lied and then made false statements regarding transfer orders on social media upon which IG Punjab ordered an inquiry of the matter.

The IGP said that Gondal had been transferred for his irresponsibility and false claims and that should not be portrayed differently. He further said that the irresponsible attitude of the officer had hurt the prestige of the department.

He said that the officers and officials who would misconduct or misguide the seniors and those who would misbehave with the citizens would not be spared.
