Lavrov Expresses Gratitude To Slovak Authorities For Preserving Soviet Soldiers' Memorials

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th August, 2018) Russia is grateful to the Slovak authorities for taking care of the Soviet Soldiers' memorial sites and war cemeteries, the country's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview released on Tuesday.

Over the recent years, Soviet monuments have been vandalized in Hungary, Latvia, Austria and other European states. Moscow has opposed such actions and called on authorities of these countries to prevent such acts from happening again.

"We are sincerely grateful to the Slovak leadership, local authorities and citizens for respecting the memory of Soviet soldiers, who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of your country and the whole Europe from the horrors of the 'brown plague', for taking care of Russian war cemeteries and memorials on the territory of Slovakia,� Lavrov told the Slovak Pravda newspaper.

The history of joint fight against Nazism unites the people of Russia and Slovakia, the minister underlined.
