Syria's Militants Hand Over 11 Tonnes Of Ammunition Over Past 24 Hours - Russian Military

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th August, 2018) Militants in Syria's southwestern provinces handed over more than 230 weapons and 11 tonnes of ammunition over the past 24 hours, Maj. Gen. Alexei Tsygankov, head of the Russian Center for Syrian Reconciliation, said on Monday.

"Former militants in southwestern Syria have surrendered over the past day 231 pieces of small arms and 11 tons of artillery and small arms ammo," Tsygankov said at a briefing, as quoted by the Defense Ministry's website.

He stressed that several cases of ceasefire violations were recorded in the Idlib de-escalation zone.

"Over the past day [militants] have attacked Barisha, Ikko, Kermel, Safsara, Qellaz, Latakia province, Halidiyah, Valyal, Maraanaz, Maqanis-al-Duwayri (three times), Zahr-al-Jayah districts of northwest outskirts of Aleppo, Abu-Dali, Hama province," Tsygankov added.

According to Tsygankov, the Russian medical personnel provided assistance to 242 Syrians, including 123 children, over the past 24 hours.

Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with the government forces fighting against numerous opposition groups and terrorist organizations. Russia along with Turkey and Iran are guarantors of the ceasefire regime in Syria.
