Donetsk People's Republic Registers 30 Ceasefire Violations by Kiev Forces Within Week

The Ukrainian forces have violated the truce in Donbas 30 times over the past week, a representative of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) of the ceasefire said on Monday.

DONETSK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th August, 2018) The Ukrainian forces have violated the truce in Donbas 30 times over the past week, a representative of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) of the ceasefire said on Monday.

"During the period from August 20 to August 26, the Ukrainian armed forces violated the ceasefire regime 30 times. Damage was caused to 31 buildings," the representative told journalists.

Last week, the Contact Group on Ukraine, comprising representatives of Ukraine, Russia and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), agreed on a new truce in Donbas, which is due to begin on Wednesday, August 29.

The conflict in Donbas started in 2014, when Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics that refused to recognize the new government in Kiev, which came to power after what they considered to be a coup.

In February 2015, the warring parties signed the Minsk peace accords to end the hostilities in the region, but the situation has remained tense, with both parties accusing each other of ceasefire violations.
