Berlin Says After Far-Right Protests in Chemnitz Mob Justice, Hatred Unacceptable

Germany does not accept mob justice and the spread of hatred, German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said Monday, commenting on the far-right protests in the eastern city of Chemnitz.

BERLIN (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th August, 2018) Germany does not accept mob justice and the spread of hatred, German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said Monday, commenting on the far-right protests in the eastern city of Chemnitz.

Earlier in the day, media reported that spontaneous rallies of over 100 participants were organized by far-right groups in Chemnitz after a 35-year-old German was stabbed and killed in a street fight, allegedly involving migrants.

"As a representative of the government, I do not want to assess the actions of the police in Chemnitz ... Fundamentally, with regard to the events in Chemnitz and not limited to it, we believe that there is no room for mob justice in Germany, for groups that want to spread hatred in the streets, for intolerance and extremism," Seibert said.

He added that the government strongly condemns "the witch hunt" against people of other nationalities.

Seibert also said that it was known that a person had been killed on Saturday in Chemnitz, and the police had launched an investigation into it.

In turn, the local police told Sputnik that they were expecting new demonstrations against migrants in the city.
