Nearly 200 Syrians Return Home From Lebanon Over Past 24 Hours - Refugee Center

DAMASCUS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th August, 2018) Nearly 200 Syrian refugees have returned to their home country from the neighboring Lebanon over the past 24 hours, the Syrian office of the Russian Center for the Reception, Allocation and Accommodation of Refugees said on Friday.

"Over the past 24 hours, 189 refugees have returned to Syria from Lebanon via crossing points," Samer Arnus said at the meeting of the Russian refugee center and the Syrian coordinating committee for refugee return.

According to Arnus, a total of 623 Syrians have returned to Eastern Ghouta and 786 refugees left the Idlib de-escalation zone over the same period.

According to the United Nations, over 5.6 million people have fled Syria and over 6.6 million have been internally displaced since the onset of the conflict in 2011. The Syrian government, with Russia's help, makes every effort to ensure the return of refugees. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, more than 100,000 people have returned to their homes in Syria since the beginning of the year.
