Russian Embassy In Congo Confirms Missing Tanker With 2 Russians On Board Found

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th August, 2018) The Pantelena tanker with two Russian nationals on board, missing in Gabonese waters since mid-August, has been found and is currently in Nigerian territorial waters, the Russian Embassy in the Republic of the Congo told Sputnik on Friday.

The Panama-flagged tanker of the Greek Lotus Shipping company, which had two Russians and 17 Georgians on board, went off the radar in Gabonese territorial waters on August 14. Earlier on Friday, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said that the tanker had been found, and that it was on its way to the port of Lome, located in West Africa's Togo.

According to the Russian Embassy's spokesperson, the Regional Center for African Maritime Security (CRESMAC) communicated to the Russian diplomatic mission in the Congo that the vessel had been found, but could not provide any information on the crew's condition.

"It [the tanker] is in Nigeria now. They [CRESMAC] don't possess any other information: what has happened to it, how things are going. This will be revealed when it docks somewhere," the spokesperson said.

The source added that the vessel had been spotted "some days ago."
