Russia To Test T-14 Armata Main Battle Tank In Arctic Region - Official

KUBINKA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th August, 2018) Russia's T-14 Armata main battle tank will be tested in different climate conditions, including in the Arctic, the deputy chief of Armaments of the Russian Land Force, Lt. Gen. Viktor Lizvinsky, said on Friday.

"We will test it in various climate conditions. We will need to test it not only in the conditions of the Central Russian Upland. It will be definitely tested in the north as well, in the Arctic, maybe we will have to send it to the mountains, maybe to the desert and sandy regions," Lizvinsky told journalists on the sidelines of the Army-2018 international defense industry forum.

Russia did not want to repeat the negative experience of the US Armed Forces, which ruined nearly all of the engines in their M1 Abrams main battle tanks during Operation Desert Storm in the early 1990s, he added.

"That's why you have to test everything: on which base the hardware will work, will it be affected by aurora," Lizvinsky said, adding that the tank would be put into test-mode operation in the troops in 2020.

The next-generation tank was unveiled to the public in 2016 during the Victory Day military parade in Moscow's Red Square on May 9.
