Fugitive Facebook Owner Caught In Ecuador - Court Filing

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th August, 2018) A New York man who fled the United States after falsely claiming he owned half of Facebook has been caught in Ecuador and will appear in court in Quito on Friday, according to a court filing issued Thursday.

Paul Ceglia sued Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in 2010 for allegedly withholding his stake. Social networks lawyer argued the email exchange between the two was fabricated, leading to criminal charges and home arrest for Ceglia. He fled the country with his family in 2015.

"The Government writes to inform the Court that Paul Ceglia was arrested this morning in Ecuador in connection with the Governments ongoing efforts to locate and extradite him to face charges in his pending criminal case," US attorney Geoffrey Berman said in a letter to District Judge Vernon Broderick.

The US Department of Justice attorney said the government understood that the fugitive would be present in court in the Ecuadorian capital of Quito within 24 hours.
