Attacker On Police Officers In Moscow Wounded, Detained - Investigators

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th August, 2018) An unidentified gunman, who opened fire on Thursday at two police officers on security detail near a number of diplomatic missions in downtown Moscow, was wounded, detained and taken to a hospital, a spokeswoman for Russia's Investigative Committee told reporters.

"According to investigators, in the evening of August 23 a man, walking along the Sivtsev Vrazhek lane in downtown Moscow, unexpectedly opened fire at policemen who patrolled the area. In response to the illegal actions of the man, the police officers used service-issue small arms in accordance with the Federal law "On police," Yulia Ivanova said.

"The attacker was wounded, disarmed and taken to a medical facility for treatment," she added.

The Russian Interior Ministry earlier said that one of the police officers was also wounded in the exchange of fire.
