Spain To Expel Over 100 Migrants Entering From Morocco - Civil Guard

MADRID (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd August, 2018) Spain decided to expel more than 100 migrants who entered its territory from Morocco on Wednesday, Spains Civil Guard confirmed to Sputnik on Thursday.

On Wednesday, some 300 migrants from African countries tried to jump over the border fence in order to enter the Spanish enclave city of Ceuta, with 116 doing it successfully. The migrants were throwing quicklime and excrement at the guards, and trying to tear down the barbed wire. Seven members of the Civil Guard suffered injuries.

Spain on Thursday began expulsion of migrants in accordance with the agreement of 1992, under which the Moroccan authorities are obliged to accept migrants who entered the Spanish territory, given the presence of an official request of Madrid.

Wednesday's reports are only the latest surrounding Ceuta, which is a popular transit point for sub-Saharan African migrants arriving in Spain.
