New Amendment Seeks To Block US Government From Funding Guns For Teachers - Senator

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd August, 2018) A new amendment introduced to Congress would seek to prevent the Trump administration from using Federal funds to give guns to teachers in US schools, Senator Chris Murphy said in a press release on Thursday.

"Murphy� on Thursday introduced an amendment� bill that would block the US Department of Education from allowing school districts to use Title IV federal funds to purchase firearms for teachers," the release said. "The Senate is currently debating the education funding bill."

Earlier on Thursday, the New York Times reported that Education Secretary Besty DeVos was considering allowing school districts to use federal funds allocated to the Student Support and Academic Enrichment Grants (SSAE) to purchase firearms for teachers, the release noted.

"Im going to do everything in my power to make sure that Secretary DeVoss plan to arm our schools is stopped in its tracks� More kids will be killed in schools if this policy is put in place - plain and simple. Thats why Congress must block its implementation," Murphy said in the release.

Murphy introduced his measure as an amendment to the fiscal year 2019 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies Appropriations bill that is currently being debated by the Senate, the release said.
