MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd August, 2018) The list of participants of the meeting on Afghanistan in Moscow on August 4 is being coordinated, Russian Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday.
"At present, the composition of the conference participants is under consideration. As soon as an official response to the invitation is received from Kabul via diplomatic channels, we will issue a relevant commentary," Zakharova said at a weekly briefing.
�On Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said it had invited officials from 12 countries, including the United States, to attend the Moscow-format consultations on Afghanistan. The US State Department later announced that the United States would not take part in the meeting and believed the initiative would not yield any progress toward a peace settlement in the country.
Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesman Sibghatullah Ahmadi told Sputnik earlier on Thursday that Kabul had made an independent decision not to attend the Moscow meeting.
