Bolton, Patrushev Start Talks In Geneva

GENEVA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd August, 2018) US National Security Adviser John Bolton and Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev have started one-day negotiations in Geneva, widely seen as a follow-up to the US-Russian presidential summit in Helsinki in July, a Sputnik correspondent reported.

Bolton has just arrived from Israel, where he met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israel's concerns over the Iranian presence in Syria, next to its border, are very likely to be high on the agenda.

Apart from Syria, a wider range of security-related issues, including Ukraine, sanctions and arms control (renegotiating the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty and the new START Treaty), can be addressed by the two senior officials.

After Geneva, Bolton is heading to Kiev to meet with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and defense, foreign and prime ministers on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day on August 24.
