Seven Spanish Civil Guards Injured In Clash With Migrants At Moroccan Border - Civil Guard

MADRID (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd August, 2018) Seven members of the Civil Guard, Spain's law enforcement agency, suffered injuries in a clash with migrants at Morocco's border with the Spanish enclave city of Ceuta, a source from the Civil Guard told Sputnik on Wednesday.

According to the source, around 200 migrants jumped over the seven meter (over 22 foot) long border fence in order to enter Ceuta, with some of them suffering injuries. The migrants were throwing quicklime and excrement at the guards, and trying to tear down the barbed wire.

"We are aware that seven civil guards suffered burns," the agency's spokesperson said.

After making it to Spanish territory, the injured migrants received medical care from the Red Cross.

On July 26, around 800 migrants attempted to enter Ceuta by storming the same fence. Over 600 of them succeeded. At least 16 law enforcement agents were injured after the migrants attacked them with quicklime, excrement, sticks, stones and Molotov cocktails.

Wednesday's reports are only the latest surrounding Ceuta, which, located on the north coast of Africa, is a popular transit point for sub-Saharan African migrants arriving in Spain.
