New York to Sue to Block EPA Proposal on Power Plant Emissions - Attorney General

The US state of New York will sue the Trump administration over its proposal to ease emissions standards for coal-fired power plants, New York Attorney General Barbara D. Underwood said in a press release on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st August, 2018) The US state of New York will sue the Trump administration over its proposal to ease emissions standards for coal-fired power plants, New York Attorney General Barbara D. Underwood said in a press release on Tuesday.

"If the Trump administrations proposal to dismantle the Clean Power Plan is adopted, we will work with our state and local partners to file suit to block it - in order to protect New Yorkers, and all Americans, from the increasingly devastating impacts of climate change," Underwood said in the release.

The attorney general added that in order to fight climate change, the country needs strong and immediate action to cut pollution and promote clean energy.

New York is leading a coalition of US states, counties and cities in defense of the Obama-era Clean Power Plan, which set the first-ever limits on carbon pollution from US power plants.

Tuesdays proposal, entitled the Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) Rule, establishes emission guidelines for states to use when developing plans to limit greenhouse gases at their power plants, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) explained in a press release.

The ACE Rule would replace the "overly prescriptive and burdensome Clean Power Plan" in an attempt to facilitate economic growth and job creation while still reducing carbon emissions that contribute to global warming, the release added.
