UK Aims to Boost Exports to 35% of GDP After Brexit - Press Release

The UK government intends to increase its total exports to 35 percent of the GDP after Brexit, up from last year's 30 percent, according to the press release on the new export strategy published on Tuesday.

LONDON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st August, 2018) The UK government intends to increase its total exports to 35 percent of the GDP after Brexit, up from last year's 30 percent, according to the press release on the new export strategy published on Tuesday.

"[The UK] government sets new ambition to increase exports as a proportion of UK GDP to 35% ... Last year 620 billion [pounds, or about $795 billion] of goods and services exported by British companies accounted for 30% of our GDP, with UK exports are at a record high," the press release read.

The government's strategy will be to encourage more businesses to export, to inform and advise more companies on export, to help UK businesses connect to buyers and markets abroad.

"As we leave the EU, we must set our sights high and that is just what this Export Strategy will help us achieve," International Trade Secretary Liam Fox said in a speech in London, as quoted in the press release.

The United Kingdom is expected to leave the European Union on March 29, 2019.
