Michigan Health Chief To Stand Trial For Manslaughter Over Water Crisis Deaths - Reports

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st August, 2018) A US judge ruled that state of Michigan Health Director Nick Lyon will stand trial for felony charges including involuntary manslaughter for deaths linked to his role in the Flint water crisis, media reported.

US District Court Judge David Goggins ruled that Lyon corruptly handled a Legionnaires disease outbreak in Flint, local newspaper Detroit news reported after the hearing on Monday.

The judge found probable cause because of Lyons withholding of information related to the outbreak, the report said. The judge also holds Lyons lack of action responsible for the death of two Flint area men who died from Legionnaires, the report added.

In April 2014, Michigan officials began drawing the citys water supply from the Flint River in order to save money. However, the river water corroded the municipal network of lead pipes, causing high levels of lead in the water and corresponding lead levels in the blood of local children.
