US Pledges to Continue Partnership with Mali After Presidential Election - State Dept.

The United States will continue cooperation with Mali in the wake of its presidential election to overcome serious challenges the country faces, US State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a press release on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th August, 2018) The United States will continue cooperation with Mali in the wake of its presidential election to overcome serious challenges the country faces, US State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a press release on Monday.

Mali held presidential election on July 29 and the runoff on August 12. President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has been reelected.

"We look forward to continuing to work together to overcome the serious challenges Mali faces from terrorism, to promote development, and to fully and rapidly implement the Algiers Accord for Peace and Reconciliation in Mali," Nauert said.

The United States condemns the threats and violence that prevented some citizens of Mali from voting, Nauert added.
