Police Disrupted Attempts by Militants to Commit High-Profile Crimes in Chechnya - Kadyrov

Chechen police have disrupted all attempts by militants to commit high-profile crimes in Russia's southwestern republic, its leader Ramzan Kadyrov said on Monday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th August, 2018) Chechen police have disrupted all attempts by militants to commit high-profile crimes in Russia's southwestern republic, its leader Ramzan Kadyrov said on Monday.

Law enforcement officers told Sputnik earlier in the day that one officer was killed and another three wounded in several attacks on policemen in Chechnya. The republic's Interior Ministry later denied the death of a police officer. According to Kadyrov, two police officers were injured in the town of Shali, and road police officers were wounded in the capital city Grozny.

"A group of young people made an attempt to commit high-profile crimes ... Thanks to police vigilance, all these attempts were disrupted, the gunmen were neutralized, one of the perpetrators blew himself up but remained alive, was taken to a hospital," Kadyrov wrote in his Telegram blog.

The Chechen leader said he was certain that the militants were influenced on social media by supporters of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, banned in Russia.

"But the reality is that they have no public support in the [Chechen] republic," Kadyrov pointed out.

According to Kadyrov, the current situation in Grozny and the republic in general was calm and stable.

The Chechen leader said law enforcement officers were on duty as usual and were "prepared to impose the rule of law on anyone who may want to undermine the security of citizens."

Chechen Interior Minister Ruslan Alkhanov said injured police officers would soon return to work.
