Unemployment Rate in Russia Lowest Since 1991 - Labor Minister

The number of the unemployed in Russia stood at 684,760 as of last week, which is the lowest level since 1991, Labor Minister Maxim Topilin said on Monday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th August, 2018) The number of the unemployed in Russia stood at 684,760 as of last week, which is the lowest level since 1991, Labor Minister Maxim Topilin said on Monday.

"In the period between August 8 and August 15, the number of the unemployed registered with the employment services lowered by 2,420 and was at 684,760 people. This is the lowest unemployment rate registered since the index was created in 1991," Topilin said.

According to the minister, the numbers indicate that there is a lack of workforce.

"Those who were born during the post-war baby boom are now leaving the labor market, while a small-numbered generation of the 1990s is entering it," Topilin said.

The minister added that a year ago, the number of the unemployed stood at 784,260.
