"Russia has friendly and partner relations with Hungary. Cooperation in trade, economic, scientific, cultural and humanitarian areas is steadily developing between the two countries. I am sure that further development of the bilateral cooperation, as well as the implementation of large joint projects in many areas, such as energy, industry, and infrastructure, fully meet the interests of our countries," Medvedev said in a telegram, cited by the press service.

St. Stephens Day, celebrated on August 20 in Hungary, commemorates the first king of Hungary, Stephen I (also called Saint Stephen), who reigned the country from 1000 until 1038.

The Russian-Hungarian economic relations are actively developing in various areas. Trade between the two states has recently been on the rise. The figures of the Russian Federal Customs Service show that in 2017, trade between Russia and Hungary reached $584 billion, which is a 25-percent increase in comparison with 2016.
