Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday that he planned to discuss concrete steps to ensure the return of Syrian refugees with his Lebanese counterpart Gebran Bassil.
MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th August, 2018) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday that he planned to discuss concrete steps to ensure the return of Syrian refugees with his Lebanese counterpart Gebran Bassil.
"We know how much you are concerned about the refugee problem. And Russian President [Vladimir Putin] has recently said that we are trying to assist its prompt resolution. We have put forward a relevant initiative, we maintain contacts with the Syrian government and those countries that have now sheltered refugees. I expect that today we will be able to discuss in detail concrete steps to implement these [initiatives]," Lavrov said at the beginning of talks with Bassil.
The Lebanese minister noted that Beirut welcomed Russia's initiative on the return of refugees to Syria.
"I want to thank Russia for its initiative to settle the refugee issue, because this position highlights Russia's principal position in settling issues in the region ... We are interested in the success of this initiative," Bassil said.
