Outbreak Of African Swine Fever Registered In Eastern China - Reports

BEIJING (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th August, 2018) An outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) has been recorded at a farm in the Chinese city of Lianyungang in the eastern Jiangsu province, local media reported Sunday, citing the Chinese Agriculture and Rural Affairs Ministry.

The farm in the Haizhou district registered first deaths of infected pigs on Wednesday, according to the Xinhua news agency. There are currently 615 infected pigs at the farm, while another 88 have died.

The local authorities had begun taking measures to block, cull and disinfect the infected pigs, while the ministry had sent its working teams to the province, the media outlet reported, adding that the situation was under control.

Chinas first outbreak of ASF was registered earlier in August at a farm in Shenyang in the countrys northeastern province of Liaoning.

ASF is a deadly and highly contagious disease, which infects pigs, but it does not affect humans or other animals. However, no vaccine is yet available to stop its spread.
