Iranian Defense Ministry To Unveil New Fighter Jet Next Week - Reports

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th August, 2018) The Iranian Defense Ministry will present the country's new fighter jet on August 22, the National Defense Industry Day, and the country will continue developing new missiles, local media reported, citing Defense Minister Amir Hatami.

The minister said on Saturday that Iran's key priority had been developing its missile potential, it had succeeded in this regard, and needs to continue developing this field, FARS news agency reported, citing the minister.

The focus would now be on maneuverability, stealth technologies, higher resistance to various nature conditions and other strategic capabilities, the minister reportedly said.

Hatami emphasized that Iran was acting within the framework of "active containment."

Iran is currently facing the reintroduction of US sanctions. Part of the restrictions against Iran went into force earlier this month, while the second portion is expected to take effect in the fall. In May, US President Donald Trump said that the United States would leave Iran's nuclear deal, which stipulated that Tehran should ensure the peaceful nature of its missile program in exchange for gradual lifting of the international sanctions.
