Roscosmos Holding Talks On Sending Gulf States Cosmonauts To ISS - State Corporation

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th August, 2018) The Russian Roscosmos state space corporation is holding talks with the Gulf States on sending these countries cosmonauts to the International Space Station (ISS), the corporations press service told Sputnik.

In April 2019, Roscosmos is going to organize a flight of a United Arab Emirates (UAE) cosmonaut to the ISS. The corporation is also discussing organization of longer flights for UAE cosmonauts to the ISS. Along with the UAE, Bahrain has also expresses interest for sending cosmonauts to the ISS.

�Roscosmos is holding negotiations on manned flights to the Russian segment of the ISS with other states and organizations both in the Gulf States region and outside it,� the press service said.

The corporation pointed out that the negotiations with different states were at various phases.

�When some specific agreements are reached, a separate statement will be issued,� the press service added.

Last month, nine UAE candidates arrived in Russia for medical tests. Two of them - a future cosmonaut and a backup - will be selected for further training that will start in September.
