Meeting High Hopes, Provision Of Justice Are Challenges Awaiting PTI Leadership

From the revival of dwindling economy to elimination of corruption and provision of justice at the doorstep of the common man are a few of the many challenges awaiting the visionary leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Aug, 2018 ) :From the revival of dwindling economy to elimination of corruption and provision of justice at the doorstep of the common man are a few of the many challenges awaiting the visionary leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The masses have pinned great hopes on the PTI-led government, which is yearning to see a prosperous and corruption-free Pakistan where there is rule of law and equal opportunities for everyone.

The opposition in the parliament is all-time ready to give the PTI government tough time as the PTI had dealt the former government while being in the opposition.

Short before the election, the PTI had unveiled an ambitious manifesto 'The Road to Naya Pakistan' committing to create a nation where equal opportunity exists for all citizens in all fields from health to education to security of life and property, justice for women, minorities and the poor.

One of the major challenges for the PTI-led government is the revival of decaying national economy what the party said would do by reforming the Federal board of Revenue and increase the tax net through a robust tax policy, effective enforcement mechanism and crackdown on tax evaders.

Another task on the PTI's wish list is the creation of 10 million jobs over five years in key sectors, including SME (small medium enterprises), housing, ICT (information communication technology), health, education, green economy and tourism. Though the political adversaries have already termed it an undoable task; however, it is yet to see how the PTI will make it achievable.

In its manifesto, the party had committed to reform the National Accountability Bureau and other accountability institutions by removing lacunas in existing laws.

The depoliticisation of police by building upon Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's successful police reform model at national level is on PTI's agenda to professionalise police hiring and career management. It will also devolve power and decision-making to the people through an empowered local government by taking small infrastructure initiatives to village councils.

In order to address the backlog of over two million court cases, the PTI has promised a judicial reforms programme, besides establishing an institution to provide free legal aid to needy litigants.

Moreover, the depoliticisation of civil service is a challenge ahead for the party as 38 major reforms during last 70 years have not been implemented effectively.

The tasks on the party's to-do-list are also the provision of equal rights to tribal areas, reconciliation in Balochistan, effective e-governance, and transparent public procurement.

Another great challenge for the party is to create South Punjab province on administrative grounds with the objective to lift 35 million people out of poverty and create an administrative balance between the federating units.

The resolution of issues confronting the people of Karachi, including transit system, drinking water, sanitation, and launch a city governance model for the city are among the priorities announced by the party.

Protection of minorities' rights, politico-social uplift of Gilgit Baltistan, launch of poverty alleviation drive, and championing development of financial instruments to create attractive investment opportunities for Overseas Pakistanis are part of the PTI's manifesto.

The party has pledged to play the role of an enabler and facilitator to build five million low cost housing units, including 1.5 to 2 million urban and 3 to 3.5 million rural housing units.

The PTI has promised to formulate the economic policies to elevate Pakistan in the top 100 economies of the world according to the World Bank's doing business rankings in five years.

Addressing the national security challenges, building dams to address water scarcity issue, the revitalization of ICT sector, boosting tourism, unleashing agriculture potential, upscaling health card across Pakistan and enhancing the literacy rate are among the uphill tasks for the new government.
