MEXICO CITY (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th August, 2018) The Peruvian authorities are going to bring back passport control on the border with Venezuela to curb the influx of migrants fleeing the economic crisis and unrest in the country, local media reported on Friday.

On Thursday, Ecuadorian Interior Minister Mauro Toscanini said that the national authorities had decided to change the rules of entrance to the country for the Venezuelans, who will have to show passports instead of national IDs.

According to the Globovision broadcaster, Lima will also require Venezuelan citizens to use passports instead of national IDs to enter Peru.

Venezuela has been engulfed in a deep economic crisis, with hyperinflation and food shortages. Besides, the country has been facing mass protests. As a result, Venezuelans are seeking asylum in other countries, with over 2 million people having left Venezuela since 2014, according to the European Parliament.
