Quetta's Imported Waste Collection Machinery To Be Operational Before Eid; Mayor

Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC) is all set to make operational waste collection machinery imported from Japan before Eid ul Azha, said the city's Mayor Dr Kaleem Ullah here Friday.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Aug, 2018 ) :Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC) is all set to make operational waste collection machinery imported from Japan before Eid ul Azha, said the city's Mayor Dr Kaleem Ullah here Friday.
The kit that includes, waste lifting, collecting and dumping equipments and vehicles has capacity to collect 1200 tons of trash which is 65 per cent of the total waste produced daily by the city.
Dr Kaleem Ullah said it was his resolve to make Quetta the cleanest city by the end of his tenure.
Mayor said QMC for the purpose invested Rs 800 million that adds a recycling plant for getting rid of ever burdening waste.
Kaleem however said Quetta Metropolitan Corporation was currently facing shortage of staff and the government was asked to provide more workforce and financial resources to meet our targets. "In 1985, QMC had a total of half million population served by the same strength of workers of the Corporation even today despite of increase in its population up to 4 million," he said.
He said QMC was handling the load of 40 per cent of the total Balochistan population with limited resources and workers.
"QMC needs 3,500 sanitation workers whereas its strength is approximately 1,000," he said.
Kaleem said QMC workers will go door to door to collect garbage on Eid ul Azha. For this purpose, he told they have been divided in four zones to keep the Metropolitan city clean and make it environment friendly. He also appealed to the citizens for not throwing garbage and use designated bins to exhibit responsibility.
He said an operation would be launched soon against encroachments along water courses and nullahs for efficient working of sewerage system so that the rain water could not cause inconvenience to the public.
Replying to a question about the demolishing of meat market, he said we are establishing new meat market and there would be a large car parking which would accommodate 500 hundred cars.
He regretted for not letting them work freely under the Article 140 A of the Constitution and hoped new the government would cooperate in this regard.
