River Indus flows in low flood: FFC

The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said that River Indus is flowing in low flood at Taunsa-Guddu Reach while other main rivers including Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Kabul and Sutlej are normal.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Aug, 2018 ) :The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said that River Indus is flowing in low flood at Taunsa-Guddu Reach while other main rivers including Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Kabul and Sutlej are normal.

According to daily FFC report on Friday, the actual river flows and reservoir elevations indicates Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs elevations are at 1545.23 feet and 1168.20 feet respectively (4.77 feet and 73.80 feet below their respective maximum conservation levels).

The combined live storage as of today is 8.529 MAF which is 62.34 per cent as compared to the existing combined live storage capacity of 13.681 MAF.

Presently, moist currents from Bay of Bengal are penetrating into upper parts of the country up to 5000 feet.

Moreover, a fresh trough of Westerly wave lies over Northern Afghanistan, whereas seasonal low persists over Northwestern Balochistan.

Mainly dry weather is expected over most parts of the country during the next 24 hours.

However, FFD, Lahore has predicted scattered thunderstorm and rain with moderatefalls at isolated places over upper catchments of Rivers Jhelum Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej, besides, over Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and D.G. Khan Divisions), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Malakand, Hazara, Bannu, Kohat and Peshawar Divisions), Southeastern Sindh and Northeastern Balochistan during the next 24 hours.

Isolated thunderstorm and rain may also occur over the upper catchments of River Indus including Sargodha, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Multan and Bahawalpur Divisions of Punjab and D.I. Khan Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the same period.
