Imran Khan bagged a total of 176 votes while opposition candidate Shehbaz Sharif could get 96 votes. 

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 17th August, 2018) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has been elected as the next prime minister of the country.

The National Assembly session to elect the next prime minister of the country was held today. National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser presided over the session.

Imran Khan was in tears of joy as the vote count was announced. The expression was captured by people who widely shared it on social media.

PTI chairman Imran Khan made an early attendance in the Assembly. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) president and candidate for prime minister Shehbaz Sharif entered the Assembly wearing a black armband along with other PMLN leaders.

The newly-elected members of National Assembly voted to appoint the country’s 22nd prime minister.

Speaker Asad Qaiser announced Imran Khan as the prime minister of the country amid noisy slogans.

Imran Khan and Shahbaz Sharif had on Wednesday submitted the nomination papers for the office of the Leader of the House which were accepted by National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser on Thursday.

The election of the Prime Minister was held through the division as enshrined in the rules of procedures and conduct of the National Assembly 2007.

The PTI emerged as the single largest party in the National Assembly with 116 general seats while with the addition of the general and reserved seats of its allies the party claimed to have secured at least 176 seats.

PTI chairman Imran Khan, who has secured a simple majority in the polls required to form his government, has been elected as the prime minister and will take the oath on August 18.v
