Revival of forestry resources aims to increase forest cover of country

The ongoing project of ministry of Climate Change "Revival of Forestry Resources of Pakistan" aimed to increase the forest cover of the country.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Aug, 2018 ) :The ongoing project of ministry of Climate Change "Revival of Forestry Resources of Pakistan" aimed to increase the forest cover of the country.

According to official data, the total cost of the programme is Rs. 3652.100 million and an amount of Rs. 554.000 million has been released during 2016-17.

An official of ministry told APP that realizing the high vulnerability to climate change, the ministry has developed national policy to combat climate change and an action is being developed effectively implement climate change concerns through sustainable planning. The project would be implemented over a period of five years (2017-2021).

The objectives planned to be achieved include one hundred million new indigenous plants including 20 per cent fruits plants to make the country green and serene.

These include one thousand avenue miles of canal/roadside plantation in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Sindh; Moreover, another programme is Revival of Wildlife Resources in Pakistan. The estimated cost of this project is Rs.1.065 billion and will be implemented in five years (2017-2021).

The main objective of this programme is to revive and functionally recognize wildlife departments at provincial/AJK and GB level through development of time-bound plans including capacity building and incentive driven performance regime.

Globally environmental related issues are going to play a major role in the social and economic development of countries. The ministry of climate change has taken many initiatives in the area of climate change adaptation and mitigating in accordance with National policy.
