SC gives right to vote to Overseas Pakistanis

Orders ECP to ensure full proof arrangements in this regard with the help of Nadra.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 17th August, 2018) The Supreme Court of Pakistan has given the right to vote to overseas Pakistanis.

Hearing the case in Supreme Court Lahore Registry, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar said that the overseas Pakistanis have been granted the right to vote.

The overseas Pakistanis will now be able to cast their vote in the by-elections to be held in the country.

CJP Nisar ordered the Election Commission to ensure full proof arrangements in this regard with the help of Nadra. He directed that the election result of E-voting should be kept completely separate.

The chief justice said that the election result of E-voting should be presented before the Parliament and should be included in the result of by-elections.

The CJP congratulated the overseas Pakistanis as their right to vote has been endorsed.

“Now it’s time for implementation. The Election Commission is responsible for holding elections. The pilot project should be completed according to the laws and operation plan of ECP,” he said.

The CJP thanked the ECP and Nadra for preparing the pilot project.

The overseas Pakistanis were deprived of the right to vote in the General Elections 2018 as the online system needed more work to be functional.
