Tajik President to Start 2-Day State Visit to Uzbekistan Friday - Presidential Office

Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon will start on Friday his two-day state visit to neighboring Uzbekistan, during which 23 documents are planned to be signed, the presidential administration told Sputnik.

DUSHANBE (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th August, 2018) Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon will start on Friday his two-day state visit to neighboring Uzbekistan, during which 23 documents are planned to be signed, the presidential administration told Sputnik.

"The visit will begin on Friday morning with the wreath-laying ceremony at the Independence Monument in Tashkent, after which, the one-on-one talks between [Rahmon and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev] will be held in the Uzbek presidential residence Kuk-Saroy," a representative of the administration said.

Rahmon and Mirziyoyev are expected to sign a number of bilateral agreements, including on strategic partnership, complete demarcation of state borders and countering external aggression. The two sides also plan to ink documents on cooperation in cinematography, weather services and other areas.

The bilateral agreements would be concluded during a special ceremony, the representative added.

The two presidents will attend Friday afternoon an exhibition of industrial goods made in Tajikistan and visit an Uzbek household devices plant Artel. The first day of Rahmons trip to Uzbekistan will finish with a concert.

On Saturday, Rahmon plans to meet with Nuriddinjon Ismailov, the speaker of the lower house of the Uzbek parliament, and Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov. The talks will be followed by Rahmons visit to the city of Samarkand.

Mirziyoyev held a state visit to Tajikistan in March. During his trip, 27 bilateral documents, including a deal introducing a visa-free regime, were signed.
