Typhoon Rumbia Makes Landfall In Shanghai

BEIJING (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th August, 2018) Typhoon Rumbia made landfall on Friday in the Chinese coastal city of Shanghai, prompting 53,000 people to evacuate, authorities said.

The China Meteorological Administration said the storm, packing winds of 23 meters per second (51.5 miles per hour), was expected to lose strength as it moved northwestward.

A flood warning has been issued for Shanghai. Heavy rainfall is predicted to continue into Saturday. Bad weather has forced 2,500 ships to return to the port.

Rumbia is the third typhoon to make landfall in the city this month and the 18th this year.
