US President Donald Trump during a cabinet meeting on Thursday told US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer not to do the NAFTA deal if negotiators fail to reach a breakthrough in the next several days.
WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th August, 2018) US President Donald Trump during a cabinet meeting on Thursday told US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer not to do the NAFTA deal if negotiators fail to reach a breakthrough in the next several days.
"If you dont have a breakthrough, as you call it, dont do the deal," Trump said.
Lighthizer said US and Mexican negotiators were currently holding NAFTA trade talks and he was hopeful of seeing a breakthrough within the next several days.
Trump said he is not in a rush to finalize the deal and added the United States is currently not having any trade talks with Canada.
Last month, Lighthizer said that the United States, Canada and Mexico could sign a renegotiated NAFTA deal by August.
The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has been in place since 1994. US President Donald Trump has threatened to withdraw the United States from NAFTA if a better agreement is not negotiated with Mexico and Canada.
