US Sanctions on Profinet Seek to 'Punish' Russia for Stand on N.Korea - Foreign Ministry

The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that US sanctions against Russian-based company Profinet were an attempt to 'punish' Moscow for its principled position on the North Korean issue and were going to undermine the crisis settlement on the Korean Peninsula.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th August, 2018) The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that US sanctions against Russian-based company Profinet were an attempt to 'punish' Moscow for its principled position on the North Korean issue and were going to undermine the crisis settlement on the Korean Peninsula.

On Wednesday, the United States imposed sanctions against Profinet and its Director General, Russian national Vasili Kolchanov. Washington claimed that Profinet had provided port services to North Korean vessels at least six times, and Kolchanov had been personally involved in alleged Russian-North Korean deals.

"Behind Washington's new anti-Russian actions, we see an attempt to 'punish' our country for its principled position on the North Korean problem, including within the United Nations," the ministry said in a statement.

"US destructive tactics, used outside of the UN Security Council and its sanctions committee 1718, will only undermine the recent progress achieved on the [North Korean crisis] settlement," the ministry added.
