Two Tu-160 Bombers Return to Home Base After Landing for 1st Time in Chukotka

Two Russian Tu-160 strategic bombers have flown over 8,000 kilometers (some 5,000 miles) on return flight from the Chukotka region in Russia's Far East to their home base in the Saratov region, the Russian Defense Ministry said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th August, 2018) Two Russian Tu-160 strategic bombers have flown over 8,000 kilometers (some 5,000 miles) on return flight from the Chukotka region in Russia's Far East to their home base in the Saratov region, the Russian Defense Ministry said Thursday.

"The Tu-160 bombers flew over the Arctic Ocean, the East-Siberian and the Kara seas within the Russian airspace," the ministry said in a statement.

"During the flight, the bombers carried out in-flight refueling, as well as practiced simulated launches of missiles against targets at a testing range in Russia's Republic of Komi," the statement said.

Earlier in the day, the two aircraft made their first landing at the Anadyr airbase in Chukotka as part of ongoing tactical drills that involve about 10 Tu-160 and Tu-95MS strategic bombers, as well as Il-78 aerial tankers.
