Two Tu-160 Bombers Make First Landing in Russia's Chukotka - Defense Ministry

Two Tu-160 strategic missile-carrying bombers made their first landing at the Anadyr airbase, located in the Chukotka region in Russia's Far East, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Thursday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th August, 2018) Two Tu-160 strategic missile-carrying bombers made their first landing at the Anadyr airbase, located in the Chukotka region in Russia's Far East, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Thursday.

"Aircrews of Tu-160 two strategic missile-carrying bombers made their first landing at the Anadyr airbase as part of tactical flight training ... The aircrews practiced direct flights ... having traveled around 7,000 kilometers [4,300 miles]," the statement read.

According to the statement, the drills involve around 10 Tu-160, Tu-95MS, and Il-78 aircraft and are being supervised by Long-Range Aviation Commander Lt. Gen. Sergey Kobylash.

The Tu-160 was the last strategic bomber designed in the Soviet Union. It entered into service in 1987.

In November 2017, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the Tu-160 fleet would be fully replaced with upgraded models.
