Medialogic case: SC seeks suggestions from PEMRA

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Aug, 2018 ) :Supreme Court directed all stockholders to sit together under the leadership of Chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and make solid suggestions to make mechanism of tv channels rating.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the case regarding non issuance of rating of Bol Media Network by the Medialogic, a TV Ratings provider in the country.

During course of proceedings, Salman Danish the founding Chief Executive Officer of Medialogic, appeared before the bench in compliance with court orders.

Chief Justice remarked that CEO Medilogic intentionally bypassed the top court orders and now he had to face contempt of court proceedings.

To this, Salman Danish tendered his apology before the bench and said that he submitted compliance report before the bench.

Justice Ijazul Ahsan said CEO medialogic intentionally changed the rating of TV channels and violated court orders, so the court would not accept his conditional apology.

Cheif Justice remarked that PEMRA should make a mechanism to get rid of the monopoly of the Medialogic so that a fair rating system could be evolved.

Private companies minting money but government doing nothing, authorities have to take solid step so such cartels could not be formed, Chief Justice added.

Those channels abused the government, rating of them would be raised, there was a monopoly of broadcaster as well, Chief Justice added.

Subsequently, the bench adjourned further hearing till September 5.

On previous hearing the apex court suspended the operation of medialogic and directed Danish to present before the court in the upcoming hearing in person.

Medialogic was established in 2007 with some investors and the international market research organization Growth From Knowledge (GFK). It stood for more than 10 years as Pakistan's first and only media rating companyto this date hence creating a monopoly.

Medialogic started its operations in September 2007 from Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad and gradually expanded, first to 9 cities, and, as of today, was catering to 20 cities.
